Foundation History and Purpose

The A.D. Henderson Foundationwas founded in 1959 by A.D. and Lucy E. Henderson, who made their homein Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Dedicated to improving the lives ofchildren through education, the Hendersons also sought to meet theconstantly changing needs of our society. Through the Foundation, theystrove to improve the economic, social and physical well-being of theircommunities. The trustees of the A.D. Henderson Foundation are dedicated to carrying on the goals of theFoundation within the framework provided by its founders.

Our Mission

The Mission of the A.D.Henderson Foundation is to provide an opportunity for all children tosucceed, with a special interest in promoting literacy for children andfamilies. We also seek to improve the efficiency and effectiveness ofthe nonprofit sector to serve the interests of our communities.

Geographic Areas of Giving

The Foundation limits its grant-making to Broward County in Florida and the State of Vermont.

Who Should Apply
TheFoundation makes grants to public entities and IRS 501(c)(3) tax exemptorganizations which are not classified as private foundations. TheFoundation also looks for organizations that do not discriminate in thehiring of staff or providing of services on the basis of race, age, sex, national origin, religion, disabilities, ancestry, marital status or sexual orientation.
